Thomas C. GrossChief Of Police
Having always been dedicated to the field of Justice, Chief Gross received his undergraduate degree from Penn State
and went on to earn his Masters Degree from Villanova University. He was a police officer in the city of York for 22
years and retired as acting chief of police with a rank of captain. He has been Chief of Police for the
York Area Regional Police Department (previously known as the York Township Police Department) since 1996.
Chief Gross recently celebrated his 33rd wedding anniversary with his wife Marian. He has two daughters,
Carrie and Emily, and one granddaughter.
In his spare time Chief Gross is active in his church, plays golf and works around his house. Chief Gross also teaches
at Harrisburg Area Community College, and is a member of the PA Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission,
the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency subcommittee on Law Enforcement and Homeland Security,
the Police Administration Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police as well as serving as
Treasurer of the Central Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. Chief Gross is also active in the United Way,
and was instrumental in getting DARE up and running in the Dallastown Community and the placement of School Resource
Officers in the Red Lion and Dallastown Schools. Chief Gross advises young people,
“Always try to look for the best in people and the best in any situation.”
