The York Area Regional Police Department is one of 111 law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania to have achieved the accreditation status through the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. The PA Chiefs of Police Association sponsors the PA Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC). Every three years police departments that have achieved the accreditation seal must continually show that they are maintaining the standards set forth by PLEAC. The Department must show that they have met over 100 standards of compliance to achieve the accreditation status for another three-year term. Independent assessors spend two-days at the Department visually inspecting the building, verifying that certain criteria are documented in police reports, and ride along with officers on patrol to interview and assess that the officers are abiding by the standards set forth by the Commission.
York Area Regional Police Department first received the accreditation seal in 2008. The Department has been re-accreditated in 2011 and 2014. Our next accreditation assessment will be in the Summer of 2017. We look forward to the challenge of maintaining our accreditation seal, and achieving the highest standards set forth by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
