On 7/14/14 at 12:12 am, York Area Regional Police were dispatched to the 300 block of E. Main St. in Dallastown Borough for a report of a male breaking into an apartment and was dragging a female from the apartment against her will. The caller stated that the male had put the female into his truck and had fled the area. York Area Regional Police had contact with these same individuals in a verbal domestic situation approx. 2 hours prior so, officers knew who was involved and what vehicle the male was driving.
While en route to the call, an officer spotted the black, dual wheeled, crew cab, GMC pick up truck at the gas pumps at Royal Farms Store 2605 S. Queen St. The officer entered the parking lot of the store, the male and female spotted the police car. The female got out of the truck, ran past the police car and into the store. The male jumped in the truck and started to drive and intentionally rammed the police car as it was still moving and the officer was still inside. The actor struck the police car in the front drivers side. The male backed up and the officer exited his car and ran after the truck to try and remove the male from the truck. The male drove forward and the officer fired several shots at the truck as it fled to the rear of the store. A second York Area Regional officer arrived and both officers followed after the truck as it fled down an access road to the rear of the store towards Arlington Shopping Plaza. The male drove the truck straight into the front of the building crashing inside of the Peaceful Pet Passage business. The officers witnessed what they described as “an explosion” of dust, debris, building and vehicle parts as the truck smashed into the building. The officers pulled up and entered the building to check on the male only to find him exiting the truck and being confrontational. The officers tried to take him into custody but he resisted their efforts. The officers tazed the male which had no effect, so the struggle continued until the officers were able to get the male into custody.
