York Area Regional Police Department has been participating in several statewide traffic enforcement programs targeting aggressive driving, DUI detection and enforcement, and seat belt enforcement.
Recently several of these traffic enforcement periods have resulted in:
20 seat belt citations being issued at the three local high schools: Dallastown Area H.S., Red Lion H.S., and York County Vocational H.S. This program, Buckle-Up PA, targeted seat belt enforcement; specifically teen drivers traveling to and from their local high schools.
During the enforcement period citations were issued for driving under suspension, speeding, and other traffic related violations. Over 190 traffic citations were issued and 1 DUI arrest.
The police department annually responds to over 800 crashes with 73 people being killed in automobile crashes since 2000. It is the goal of the police department, through traffic enforcement and visibility, to reduce the number of crashes and injuries that result from those crashes.
