July 12, 2016 at 14:45 hours, officers from York Area Regional Police Department were dispatched by York County 911 to an address in Jacobus Borough for a home invasion assault. The victim, a 15 year old female, advised officers that a man that she was communicating with online showed up at the residence before noon. The man, later identified as Kusma, let himself into the residence and found the female in her bedroom where she was sexually assaulted. This assault was interrupted by a friend of the female juvenile that stopped by her residence. Kusma then left the residence and drove away in his vehicle.
Kusma provided the juvenile victim a photograph of himself which was provided to the York Area Regional Police Department. This photo was searched through various law enforcement databases that did not result in a positive identification.
This photograph was searched at various times since this crime occurred. December 2018 a positive identification was provided through one of these databases identifying the suspect as Robert Alexander Kusma.
December 17, 2018: York Area Regional Police Department traveled to Scranton, PA to execute a search warrant on Kusma’s residence. With the assistance of the Lackawana County District Attorney’s Office, and the Scranton Police Department the search warrant was executed and evidence related to this crime in Jacobous Borough was recovered. Kusma was transported by the York Area Regional Police Department to York County and arraigned on charges of Indecent Assault of a person less than 16 years of age, Unlawful Contact with a minor – Sexual Abuse, Sexual Abuse of Children – Photographing, videotaping and depicting on computer or filming sexual acts.
