The York Area Regional Police Department acknowledges the retirement of Officer David E. Barley after 32 years of service with the York Township and York Area Regional Police Departments. Officer Barley also served with the Mt. Wolf Police Department and Dallastown Borough Police Department spanning a career as a police officer for 38 years.
Officer Barley served as the first School Resource Officer (SRO) of the Department and for Dallastown Area School District between 2002-2014.
- Officer Barley received a life saving award on May 12, 1994 by performing CPR to a vehicle crash victim.
- Officer Barley received the Law Enforcement Award in 1997 from the Spry-Dallastown Optimist Club
- Officer Barley was able to assist the District Attorney’s Office in a 3rd Degree Murder conviction for a DUI crash that killed two people on December 20, 1996.
- He taught the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) at Dallastown Area School District for many years even before being assigned as the SRO.
